Matthias Brucke studied physics, electrical engineering, and computer science and has been active in the field of digitalization since the mid-1980s. As early as 1995, he explored artificial intelligence in his diploma thesis. He subsequently spent 15 years in leadership roles in research. In 2013, he founded a consulting firm specializing in innovation and grant funding, which has been part of the Ignite Group since 2025.

At Ignite, Matthias develops consortia and innovation networks in which companies, research institutions, and other partners implement joint projects. His focus is on innovation under uncertainty: Instead of rigid long-term planning, he emphasizes effectuation, early experimentation, and the targeted combination of diverse expertise. He is an expert in innovation as well as in the German and European innovation and funding systems, and chairs the Commission on Innovation and Funding Programs at the German Association for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses (BVMW). In addition, he serves as a lecturer and reviewer for different German and European funding programs.
